Windows Low virtual memoryRecently I was updating an old windows XP computer, and the "Low Virtual Memory" message came up.

What this means is that when your computer runs out of RAM memory, it starts moving some of your running applications to the hard drive to what is sometimes referred to as the swap space.

However there can come a time when even this area gets full. When that happens, your computer posts the message "Virtual memory is low" . Here is how to fix this:

The first thing you should do is make sure you have a decent amount of room on your hard drive, say 5 gigs or more.If you are OK here, then follow these steps:

  •  Click Start, RIGHT click on My Computer.
  • Click Proerties, and then click the Advanced tab.
  • Click the Settings button under Performance.
  • Click the Advanced tab.
  • In the Virtual Memory section, click Change.B
  • There are two dialog boxes labeled
Initial size (MB) and Maximum size (MB)
  • In the initial size enter twice your computer's RAM.
  • In the Maximum size enter something 50% greater.
  • IMPORTANT: Click the SET button.
  • Then close everything down.

Not only will this take care of your Low Virtual Memory problem, but your computer will probably run a bit faster as well!
