How To Lock Your Computer Screen in Windows 7 / Vista
| Operating Systems - Microsoft / Windows |
One major area of computer security that is overlooked is locking your computer screen when you leave your desk. There are several ways to lock your computer screen, with one of them being using the Hotkey Win+L method. I like this way for locking your computer screen, because I often don't remember the Hotkey method.
What I do is create a shortcut on my computer's desktop. Then all I have to do is click the shortcut, and my computer is locked.
To set this up, all you have to do is just right click where you want the shortcut to be on your computers desktop and select New then Shortcut. A dialog box will open up asking you What Item you would like to create a shortcut for.
Just enter the following text: rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation
Next, you will be asked what you would like to name your shortcut. Just give it a name that make sense to you like for example Lock Computer. Then click Finish, and you are done!
So now whenever you leave your computer and want to lock you computer screen, (hopefully always..), just click on the Lock Computer shortcut you made, and you are secure!
When you come back to your computer, just move your mouse, and it will tell you that your computer is locked. Just enter your password, and your back working again.
